Rubbertree

A play area for refugee children

RUBBERTREE Playground-design for Baan Tha Aj School, Thailand 2011
Honorable Mention for Innovation in Competition Go Play!/ Architecturefor Humanity.
materials: used car tyres, bamboo frame, liana rope
size site: 33 x 17 meters

Competition commission: A play area with local materials for a school of refugee children.
Refugee children need a safe place, to be rooted in solid ground.
This tree with long and expanding roots offers an open and inviting landscape on different levels: spaces to roam and explore, for spontaneous play.
From cradle to cradle: tyres are made of latex from the rubbertree and now they have served their duty, become a sculpture of a rubbertree. That is a full circle. In this way, trash becomes poetry.
